new year's resolution: smile & get over yourself
Hello and Happy New Year! If you know me well, you know I am not one to post my opinions, thoughts, or struggles online. However, a lot of 2016 was spent dealing with unresolved issues and anxiety that took a toll on my relationships with others, but most often on myself.
The things we avoid or fear can be disguised by a cool picture, an artsy filter, or a witty caption. I think many of us choose to live a filtered existence, myself included. Furthermore, it’s easy to think that your life isn’t as fun or interesting or luxurious or *insert adjective* as the person a scroll above or below you in your feed. It’s easy to compare yourself and feel as though you should be doing something different or better.
If I’ve learned anything from last year it is this: we need to get over ourselves. Accept the fact that no one really knows what’s going to happen—no one. We can’t predict certain events or a future state of mind. But we can learn to FOCUS on the things that matter. Trust your instincts, move confidently in your choices, and smile always.
